At least three sets of VHF two-way radio telephone equipment should be provided on every passenger ship,
cargo ship with a gross tonnage of 500 or
more and on a fishing ship of 45 meters or
more . On each cargo vessel with a gross tonnage of 300 and more, but less than 500 and on a fishing vessel 24 m in length and more, but less than 45 m, at least two sets of VHF two - way radiotelephone equipment should be provided .

On each side of each passenger ship, a cargo ship of 500 gross tonnage and more, and a fishing ship 45 meters or more in length, at least one radar transponder must be provided.

On each cargo vessel with a gross tonnage of 300 or more, but less than500 and on each fishing vessel with a length of 24 m or more, but less than 45 m,at least one radar transponder must be provided.

Radar transponders should be installed in such places so that they can be quickly transferred to any collective rescue device, with the exception of rafts or rafts, required in 4.1.1.4. Alternatively, one radar transponder can be installed in each collective rescue vehicle, with the exception of those required in 4.1. 1.4.

On ships with at least two radar transponders and equipped with free-fall lifeboats, one radar transponder must be installed in a free-fall lifeboat and the other must be located in close proximity to the navigating bridge so that it can be used on the ship in readiness for transfer to any collective life-saving device.
